Biocide Roof Treatment - Turramurra Test Case

This property is located in Sydney’s northern suburbs, within the Ku-ring-gai Council area.

We first attended the site earlier in the year to clean the solar panels and assess the roof condition. While the panels were successfully cleaned, the roof itself was found to be heavily contaminated with mature lichen, particularly across the shaded southern-facing areas. Lichen on roofing poses a risk to solar panels, as spores can transfer back onto the panel surface over time.

The Solution

Rather than immediately pressure cleaning the roof, we recommended a biocide roof treatment first. This treatment was applied across the roof surface to kill lichen and algae at the root, allowing natural weathering and time to weaken and dislodge the growth.

The Result

When we returned several months later to complete the roof clean, the difference was clear:

• Large amounts of lichen had already broken down and washed away naturally

• Remaining lichen could be removed with minimal pressure — in all areas simply rubbed away by hand

• Visible lichen markings and staining were not present, unlike roofs cleaned without any prior treatment

• Cleaning time and physical pressure on the roof were significantly reduced

Because the clean was completed more efficiently, the time savings effectively offset the cost of the biocide treatment, delivering excellent value for the client.
